The Galaxy X may be the first retractable phone on the market, so it will not be compared to other phones. Samsung is expected to start mass production of the Galaxy X in November this year, before being formally unveiled at the MWC 2019.
There are also suggestions that Samsung will present prototype models to its telecommunications partners at CES 2019. The Galaxy X is also said to have a 7.3-inch OLED display that will shrink to 4.5 inches when folded.
Samsung may produce only limited amounts of Galaxy X ranging from 300,000 to 500,000 units to measure market reaction before deciding whether to increase production.
Other smart phone manufacturers such as Oppo, Huawei and LG are also expected to follow folding devices, although they may depend on Samsung's success first.
